Prokofiev - Piano Sonata No. 7, Op. 83 III. Precipitato (Pollini)
Precipitato, third movement from Piano Sonata No. 7, Op. 83
Maurizio Pollini, piano
Sergei Prokofiev's Piano Sonata No. 7 in B flat major, Op. 83 (sometimes also called "Stalingrad"), the second of his three War Sonatas, was composed between 1939-1942 and premiered January 18, 1943 in Moscow by Sviatoslav Richter. Considered by some to be one of the most brilliant toccatas ever written, the Precipitato boldly affirms the key of the sonata through a more diatonic harmonic language than found in the first movement. This is obvious from the very beginning, with simple B-flat major triads repeated over and over again. Despite a wide range of performance tempos chosen by different pianists, the ...

8:58=Sounds like The Etude Op 25 No. 12 (Ocean)!
An old friend once told me something that gave me great comfort. Something he read. He said Mozart, Beethoven and Chopin never died. They simply became music.
I tackled this lovely when 13 or 14. Notes fit under the fingers nearly effortlessly. Note that Rubinstein's touch is so very even, and his interpretation is classic--brilliant--especially the last time through the A section. He uses his right-hand thumb to bring out a counter melody. Three cheers!
...Une Magnifique Belle Absolue Composition Humaine[UMBACH].*°
So beautiful..!
The delicate, scant pedaling at the beginning is really sublime.
I thought I was imagining it, but Rubinstein's performance here doesn't quite match up - towards the end he's left out a few counts. Perhaps in the version he was using it was abridged? Or just an error? Who knows.
I love Chopin's music. What a masterpiece ! ...
Who’s here because they have to play this for the exam. I hate piano now, mostly cuz of my teacher. He’s so annoying, and this hard piece makes it even worse. Idk what to do. But I still need to pass grade 8 this year😓😞😤
This is just rant
Is this the music for "Somewhere out there" in A Mouse Tale or is there another piece of classical music that's closer?
...eu, que não gostava de Etudes!?! estava errado!!!
This is infinitely beautiful....
I imagine Chopin playing this piece on winter , with his cold hands, even feeling cold he continue playing and his hands warming up with this piece

Probably my favorite interpretation here on youtube. It's on the fast side but still very nuanced.

Tonight after working on playing this piece for...11 years or so...I've realized this indeed is the work of pure genius.
